The Kwara State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to take urgent action to secure the release of 176 women and children abducted from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Monday by its State Publicity Secretary, Ibraheem Gbagba, the party expressed concern that the victims have remained in captivity for about 158 days, describing the situation as a humanitarian tragedy that has inflicted severe emotional and psychological suffering on their families.
“The pains, tears, and sufferings of the affected families have become unbearable. Every passing day increases the trauma of mothers, fathers, wives, husbands, children, and loved ones who continue to pray and wait for the safe return of their family members,” the statement read.
The NDC commended the recent rescue of abducted victims in Oyo State, attributing the success to coordinated efforts by government, security agencies, and community leaders. It urged the Kwara State Government to adopt similar strategies, intensify rescue operations, and strengthen collaboration with federal security agencies.
The party also recommended setting up a high-level intervention and negotiation team, involving traditional rulers, vigilante groups, and community leaders in intelligence gathering, while providing regular updates to families and the public.
“The safety and protection of citizens remain the primary responsibility of government. The people of Kwara State deserve urgent action, hope, and results,” the statement added.
The NDC further appealed to residents, civil society organisations, and religious leaders to unite in demanding the safe return of the abductees, stressing: “Enough of the tears. Enough of the waiting. Bring back our families.”
