Zulum Hails Military After Rescue of 360 Abductees in Borno

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has praised the Nigerian military for the successful rescue of 360 abductees from the Mandara Mountains, a notorious terrorist stronghold in southern Borno.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, Zulum described the operation by troops of Operation Hadin Kai as a demonstration of courage, professionalism, and effective intelligence-led strategy in the fight against insurgency.

The governor said the mission, which freed hundreds of men, women, and children, has renewed hope among affected communities and reaffirmed the joint commitment of federal and state authorities to restore lasting peace in the North-East.

Zulum expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, and the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, commending their gallantry and sacrifice.

He called the rescue a “major breakthrough” that underscores the importance of inter-agency collaboration and the determination to ensure no citizen remains in captivity.

He further pledged continued state support for the military and security agencies with logistics to sustain counter-insurgency operations.

Zulum also urged residents of Mussa in Askira-Uba Local Government Area to remain hopeful, assuring them that efforts were ongoing to secure the release of abducted schoolchildren.

The governor encouraged communities to remain vigilant, cooperate with security forces, and provide credible intelligence to aid ongoing operations.

The rescue comes three months after suspected armed men attacked a military base in Ngoshe, killing several people, burning vehicles, and abducting others highlighting the persistent threat in the region.
