Troops of Operation Fasan Yamma have successfully rescued six victims who escaped from bandit captivity in Zamfara State, thanks to sustained military pressure and Nigerian Air Force interdiction operations.
According to a military operational report released on Monday, the victims fled their captors following an air strike west of Bagega Forest.
They were then intercepted by troops of the 1 Brigade Combat Team 6 at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gwashi, Bukuyyum Local Government Area, along the Gwashi-Bukuyyum road on Friday.
The rescued individuals, all from Bukuyyum LGA, have been identified as:
Muhammad Sani (Masama)
Junaidu Muhammad (Gandun Malam)
Abubakar Abdullahi (Maibaka)
Abubakar Barau (Maibaka)
Surajo Abubakar (Dogon Daji)
Nasiru Hakilu (Adabka village)
The victims had been held in captivity for several months before regaining their freedom. Authorities are now working to reunite them with their families and provide necessary support.
The rescue forms part of intensified military operations targeting terrorist and bandit groups operating in forests and remote communities across Nigeria’s North-West region.
Military authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal elements until all kidnapped persons are freed and communities are secured.
