Protesters in Abuja on Saturday demanded that the administration of President Bola Tinubu should rescue the schoolchildren and teachers in the den of kidnappers.
The protesters occupied the Nyanya-Karu bridge in Abuja, the
country’s capital, to press home their demands.
The protest caused heavy traffic gridlock along the
Nyanya-Karu expressway, and it took the intervention of military personnel to
clear the traffic.
The protesters were chanting “Tinubu must go, bring back our
children ”, while carrying placards with inscriptions calling for the rescue of
the abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oyo and Borno states.
Martins Vincent Otse, a social media activist popularly
known as VeryDarkman, joined the demonstration.
Saturday is the fourth day of the demonstration against
abductions of schoolchildren in the country.
During the Democracy Day celebration on Friday, protests
erupted in Abuja and other parts of the country over worsening insecurity.
On May 15, gunmen attacked three schools in Oriire LGA,
abducting about 39 students and seven teachers.
Between May 13 and 14, gunmen abducted a primary school in
Mussa village, Askira/Uba LGA of Borno state, and abducted 42 children.
