Vice President Kashim Shettima has reassured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu remains fully committed to ensuring the safe return of schoolchildren and other citizens abducted in different parts of the country.
Speaking in Abuja on Friday after a special Jumma’a prayer
at the National Mosque to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day, Shettima said
the administration would not relent in its efforts to restore peace and
security nationwide.
“I want to assure Nigerians of President Tinubu’s unwavering
commitment to restoring peace and stability in the nation.
“No matter how long the night is, it must give way to the
light of dawn. Stormy as the weather may be, it will not rain forever. The
government remains irrevocably committed to restoring peace and stability in
the nation,” he assured.
The Vice President’s remarks came amid renewed concerns over
insecurity following the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire
Local Government Area of Oyo State, a development that prompted President
Tinubu to approve the recruitment of additional security personnel.
Shettima called on Nigerians to continue praying for peace
and stability across the country, stressing that the Federal Government remains
determined to tackle security challenges and safeguard lives and property.
He also paid tribute to the sacrifices of past national
heroes whose efforts helped preserve the democratic system currently enjoyed by
Nigerians.
According to him, citizens should remain united and pray for
one another, noting that the values and interests shared by Nigerians are
stronger than the differences that may exist among them.
