Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu appointed him as ambassador-designate to four countries in Central and South America.
Omokri made the claim in a post on his Facebook page
following discussions surrounding diplomatic appointments recently announced by
the Federal Government.
The former presidential aide claimed his own case differs
significantly from that of other appointees because his diplomatic posting
involves simultaneous service across four countries, each with its own
leadership and approval process.
According to him, the nature of his appointment comes with
additional diplomatic procedures, especially as approvals must be secured from
multiple foreign governments before the process can be concluded.
“His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, chose to
nominate me as an Ambassador to serve concurrently in four countries in Central
and South America.
“Therefore, the processes involved for me, as an envoy to
four different nations with four different Presidents, differ from those of
others,” he wrote.
His comments came in response to a social media user
identified as Kachi, who appeared to compare his appointment timeline with that
of Professor Yakubu, another ambassadorial appointee.
Reacting, Omokri dismissed any suggestion of rivalry or
competition, stating that he does not subscribe to a mindset built around
comparing personal progress with that of others.
