Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in prayer, stressing that those behind terrorism and insecurity in the country must be exposed.
Speaking at an Inter-Denominational Church Service held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, to mark Democracy Day, Akpabio recalled introducing monthly prayer sessions during his tenure as governor of Akwa Ibom State to combat militancy, kidnappings, and killings.
He said, “We must continue praying so that the evil doers and their sponsors shall be exposed. If they are in government, they shall be exposed. If they are outside government, they shall be exposed. Those sponsoring it, whether politically motivated or not, may they never have peace until they are defeated.”
Akpabio acknowledged the pain caused by insecurity across Nigeria, noting that communities have been attacked, farmers fear returning to their fields, and families mourn loved ones lost to violence.
He reflected on his own childhood experience during the civil war, empathizing with families whose children remain in captivity.
Despite these challenges, he emphasized Nigeria’s resilience, citing survival through political upheavals, pandemics, and insurgencies over 27 years of uninterrupted democracy.
He assured citizens that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is committed to restoring peace and securing the release of abducted persons.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, also addressed the congregation, highlighting ongoing federal efforts to ease economic hardship and intensify the fight against insecurity.
