Sunday Igboho: My Call for South-West Security Targets Criminals, Not Ethnic Groups

Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has clarified that his demand for stronger security in the South-West is not directed at any ethnic group but strictly against criminal elements responsible for kidnappings, killings, and banditry.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olayomi Koiki, Igboho urged Nigerians across religious, political, and ethnic divides to unite with government and security agencies in tackling insecurity nationwide.

His remarks followed a statement by the Fulani socio-cultural group, Concerned Fulani People of Nigeria (CFPN), which accused him of making inflammatory comments against Fulani communities in Oyo State.

Responding, Igboho dismissed the claims as “baseless” and a “distortion of facts,” stressing that his advocacy has always been about protecting innocent lives.

“I have never declared war against any ethnic group. Our fight is against criminals who kidnap, kill, and terrorize communities,” he said.

Igboho commended the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, and other security chiefs for their ongoing efforts to combat crime in the region.

He emphasized that safeguarding communities should be a collective responsibility, not left solely to government agencies.

He concluded by urging critics to support stronger security measures rather than misrepresent his stance, insisting that crime “has no colour or race.”
