The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of a soldier attached to the 25 Brigade in Borno State after he accidentally discharged his weapon, injuring a fellow officer.
According to reports from Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the incident occurred around 6 a.m. on Friday at Sierra 7, a military defensive position in Damboa Local Government Area.Military sources said the soldier negligently fired his weapon within the facility, leaving a colleague with gunshot wounds.
The injured officer received immediate medical treatment before being evacuated to a field ambulance unit for further care.Authorities have since disarmed and detained the soldier involved, pending investigation and possible disciplinary action.
The Nigerian Army emphasized the importance of strict adherence to weapons-handling procedures and safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in operational zones.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accidental discharge are ongoing.
