Renewed Hope Ambassadors Media Team Visits Abia to Inspect Projects

A high-powered Renewed Hope Ambassadors Presidential Media Team arrived in Abia State on Tuesday to inspect federal and state government projects across the state.

Briefing journalists after Monday’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, said the visit was part of the Renewed Hope National Media Tour showcasing projects executed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and various state governments.

“The tour is designed to cover the six geopolitical zones of the country. The visit by the team is quite timely, given the cordial relationship between the state government and the Federal Government,” Kanu noted.

He highlighted ongoing collaborations, including the airport project and the recently flagged-off Renewed Hope Housing Estate, as examples of the partnership between Abia and the Federal Government.

Project Inspections

Kanu explained that the media team would tour road projects and other development initiatives across Abia’s 17 local government areas. The visit will culminate in a civic reception hosted by Governor Otti.

He also announced that full operations had commenced at the ultra-modern bus terminal in Umuahia. The relocation process involves about 39 transport operators, with enforcement measures beginning Tuesday to ensure compliance.

“The first phase of operations involves the Abia Green Shuttle buses. The second phase involves informal transport operators, while the third phase will bring in formal operators,” Kanu said, acknowledging initial resistance but stressing that stakeholders were largely satisfied with the transition.

Infrastructure and Social Initiatives

The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving Abia’s road network, describing ongoing works as “transformative.”

He further disclosed that the state, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and the Office of the Governor’s Wife, will commemorate the International Day of the Boy Child on June 16, 2026.

In addition, the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, in partnership with the Governor’s wife’s office, joined the global community in marking World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Activities include sensitisation campaigns on elders’ rights, protection services, and reporting mechanisms, alongside engagement with senior citizens and community stakeholders.

Kanu said the initiative aims to strengthen collaboration with healthcare facilities and social protection actors to ensure older persons live with dignity, security, and hope.
