Public affairs analyst Mahdi Shehu has condemned the reported reintegration of more than 3,000 former Boko Haram members and their families in Borno State, describing the move as a dangerous policy and a sign of governance failure.
Reacting to a Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) report on his official X account, Shehu argued that the initiative would not secure lasting peace but instead deepen insecurity across the region.
“The reintegration of murderers, arsonists, vandals and willful criminals is counterproductive and an admission of governance failure,” he wrote.
He warned that the decision could have long-term consequences, potentially fueling fresh security challenges and worsening the plight of communities already devastated by insurgency.
Shehu insisted that such actions risk undermining stability rather than fostering reconciliation, stressing that affected communities may face greater danger if insurgents are reabsorbed without accountability.
