President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of renowned chartered accountant and financial management consultant, Kunle Elebute, as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN).
According to a statement from the Presidency on Thursday, the appointment is aimed at strengthening corporate governance, boosting investor confidence, and deepening transparency and accountability within Nigeria’s financial reporting ecosystem.
Elebute, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), brings over four decades of professional experience across Nigeria, West Africa, and global markets. He previously served as Senior Partner and Chief Executive Officer of KPMG Nigeria, Chairman of KPMG West Africa, and Chairman of KPMG Africa, while also sitting on KPMG’s regional and global boards, including its Global Board Audit Committee.
Described as a highly respected professional, Elebute has extensive expertise in audit, financial advisory services, risk consulting, corporate governance, and strategic transformation. He has advised leading institutions in financial services, infrastructure, healthcare, consumer goods, energy, and the public sector, while contributing to national policy and regulatory development through service on several public committees.
The Presidency emphasized the strategic role of the FRCN in Nigeria’s economic development, noting that the Council sets and enforces standards in financial reporting, auditing, actuarial practice, valuation, and corporate governance.
Tinubu expressed confidence that Elebute’s leadership would strengthen the Council’s operations and support the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to build a more transparent, competitive, and investment-friendly economy.
