Police Dismiss Viral Video Claiming Officers Interacted With Bandits in Katsina

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has debunked a video circulating online that allegedly shows its personnel engaging with bandits on motorcycles in Katsina State.

In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniesu, described the footage as “tissues of lies emanating from the pit of hell,” insisting it was a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the police.

According to the statement, the video actually captured a routine interaction between a police officer and security volunteers, including members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) and registered hunters, who were heading to a designated operational area to support ongoing security efforts.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the individuals featured in the video are not bandits. They are duly recognized members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria and registered hunters actively supporting security operations in Musawa and Matazu LGAs of Katsina State,” the police clarified.

The Force condemned the spread of misinformation, warning that such distortions could undermine public confidence, cause unnecessary anxiety, and frustrate ongoing security operations.

It urged Nigerians to disregard misleading claims and rely only on information from official police channels and authorized government sources.

The statement also cautioned individuals and groups against creating or sharing false content capable of jeopardizing public peace, stressing that legal action may be taken against violators.
