Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, has criticized residents of Oluyole Local Government Area for allegedly failing to report suspicious activities linked to kidnappers who used a residential property as a hideout.
Speaking after the rescue of Mrs. Busayo John-Paul and her twin sons from a kidnapping syndicate, Olugbenga revealed that abducted victims were repeatedly brought into a house in Araromi Quarters, Ayegun North, without residents alerting security agencies.
“They have been bringing the abductees here. People see them. Some even greet them and say ‘welcome.’ When people see such things and don’t speak up, what do you expect us to do?” he queried.
Preliminary investigations showed the location had been used multiple times by kidnappers. The commissioner stressed that early reports from residents could have enabled police to intervene sooner.
He urged communities to promptly report unusual movements and suspicious activities, emphasizing that cooperation between citizens and security agencies is vital in tackling kidnapping, banditry, and other threats.
