The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has strongly condemned the kidnapping of Mrs. Busayo Adelabu John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power Bayo Adelabu, along with her 12-year-old twin sons.
Gunmen carried out the abduction in the early hours of Wednesday in Ibadan. In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the APC urged Governor Seyi Makinde to work closely with security agencies to tackle the rising wave of insecurity across the state. The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. at Elewura-Challenge in Ibadan South West Local Government Area. Armed attackers reportedly trailed the victims’ vehicle before flagging it down and abducting Mrs. John-Paul and her sons.
Sadaré expressed concern that the kidnapping took place amid public anxiety over other unresolved abduction cases, including schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, as well as two staff members of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) in Oluyole LGA. He called on federal, state, and local governments to review and strengthen the state’s security architecture to better protect lives and property, irrespective of individuals’ status.
“We demand the immediate rescue of all abducted persons, including the Oriire school victims, the CRIN staff, Mrs. Busayo John-Paul and her children, and others currently in captivity,” Sadare stated. He urged Governor Makinde to take decisive action to curb the escalating kidnappings, warning that the situation has left residents in fear.
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing, while appealing for calm among residents. This latest abduction adds to a series of security challenges in the state, including the kidnapping of an APC chieftain, Wale Oriade, in Ibadan in December 2025. The APC reiterated its call for urgent and coordinated efforts to restore safety and security for all citizens in Oyo State.
