One person was reportedly killed and seven others injured on
Wednesday after a trailer rammed into a campaign procession of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) in Ede, Osun state.
The incident occurred at Oke Gada area of the town during a
campaign walk organised in support of Bola Oyebamiji, the APC governorship
candidate.
Eyewitnesses said the trailer veered off its lane, adding
that the driver attributed the accident to brake failure.
According to the driver, the accident was caused by brake
failure.
Meanwhile, the injured victims were rushed to nearby
hospitals for treatment.
“It has been reported that during the APC Endurance Walk for
Ambo in Ede, a trailer driver rammed into the crowd, leaving one person dead
and several others injured,” Adeshina, a supporter of APC, wrote on X.
Kola Olabisi, APC director of media and information in Osun,
confirmed the incident, noting that the party was still awaiting full details
of the accident and had dispatched a team to investigate the circumstances
surrounding the crash.
He added that the party would provide a comprehensive update
after receiving findings of the investigation.
Reacting to the incident, Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson
of the The Imole Campaign Council (TICC), condoled with the family of the
victims involved in the accident.
“The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) receives with a profound
sadness news of a truck ramming into a procession of members of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) in anticipation of its rally billed for Ede today,
commiserating with the party and family members of the deceased over the tragic
incident,” he said.
“Our campaign council is visibly shaken by reports that the
accident involving a truck who lost its brake recorded a fatality while several
other victims are in critical condition and receiving treatment at the
hospital.
“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family of the
departed and everyone touched by the loss.”
