Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Monday launched a specialised health centre and a health technology academy in Hadejia, Jigawa State, to boost early detection and prevention of chronic kidney disease.
The Oluremi Tinubu Clinic, built and equipped by the FutureMap Foundation and eHealth Africa, is located on Garun Gabas Road in Hadejia.
It is dedicated to serving vulnerable communities with a focus on kidney health.
The second project, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Academy, was established by the Federal Government through the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
It aims to train youths and health workers in the use of technology to address health challenges.Speaking at the inauguration, Senator Tinubu commended the partners for the initiatives.
“These facilities are dedicated to the early detection and prevention of chronic kidney disease, especially for our vulnerable people,” she said.
“Health is wealth, and prevention saves lives.”She noted that the clinic and academy will complement each other in developing digital tools and solutions for kidney disease management.
NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa described the academy as a milestone in health innovation.
He said the two facilities will work together to create early warning systems and digital tools for chronic kidney disease, aligning with the recent establishment of the National Health Technology and Data Analytics Office by President Bola Tinubu.
Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi thanked the First Lady for the projects and the launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme in the North-West, describing it as a significant step in the fight against food insecurity and malnutrition.
