Obi, Kwankwaso May Exit NDC if Expectations Falter – Bashir Ahmad

Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has suggested that Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, could abandon the party if their political ambitions are not met.

Ahmad made the claim in a post on his verified X handle, noting that both politicians view the NDC largely as a platform for the 2027 elections.

He argued that the difference in political timelines between the party’s national leader, Seriake Dickson, and the Obi/Kwankwaso camp could make long-term alignment difficult.

“If Obi and Kwankwaso’s expectations are not realised within the party, they will definitely move on to another platform ahead of 2031 for the same reason,” Ahmad wrote.

According to him, Dickson is focused on building a durable political structure aimed at positioning himself strongly for a presidential run in 2031, rather than pursuing short-term electoral gains.

Ahmad’s remarks highlight ongoing tensions within the NDC, where questions remain about whether the party can balance immediate electoral ambitions with long-term political strategy
