Justice Binta Fatimah Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Isa Isiaka, a father of 11 children and husband to two wives, to 20 years imprisonment for deliberately withholding information about Boko Haram operations from the Federal Government.
The conviction came after Isiaka pleaded guilty to terrorism charges filed by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN.
According to the prosecution, Isiaka concealed intelligence that could have led to the swift arrest of members of the proscribed Boko Haram sect.
Despite admitting guilt, he pleaded for leniency, citing his role as a first-time offender and his responsibility for a large family.Justice Nyako, however, dismissed his plea as untenable, stressing the gravity of his offense against national security.
She subsequently handed down a 20-year sentence without the option of a fine.
