Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has extended the curfew imposed on ten local government areas of the state by an additional 24 hours following the abduction of 39 students and seven teachers.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, and released through the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, on Thursday evening.
The curfew, initially declared for 48 hours in LGAs surrounding the Old Oyo National Park, will now run until Saturday, June 27, 2026.
The park has been identified as the location where the abducted victims are being held.
The affected local government areas include Oriire (Ikoyi-Ile), Orelope (Igboho), Irepo (Kisi), Saki West (Saki), Saki East (Ago-Amodu), Atisbo (Tede/Ago-Are), Itesiwaju (Otu), Iseyin (Iseyin), Olorunsogo (Igbeti), and Atiba (Offa-Meta, Oyo).
Governor Makinde’s decision underscores the gravity of the security situation and the state government’s efforts to contain threats while ensuring the safe return of the abducted students and teachers.
