Makinde Approves Contributory Pension Scheme for Oyo Workers

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the immediate implementation of a Contributory Pension Scheme for workers in the state.

The announcement was made by Chairman of the Oyo State Pensions Board, Tunji Adekunle, in a statement issued on Thursday through the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade.

According to the circular issued by the board, the scheme applies to officers employed in the Oyo State Civil/Public Service from January 1, 2025, and will officially commence on July 1, 2026.

The contribution structure is set at 12% from the employer (Oyo State Government) and 8% from the employee.

The government has pledged to ensure prompt payment of accrued benefits to affected employees upon commencement.

Adekunle directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to submit a comprehensive list of eligible employees recruited since January 1, 2025, using the provided Excel proforma.

Submissions must be made in both hard and soft copies to the Pensions Board on or before Monday, June 22, 2026.

Each MDA is also required to designate a Pension Desk Officer, whose details (full name, designation, grade level, WhatsApp number, email, and phone number) should be forwarded to the board to facilitate coordination and smooth implementation of the scheme.

The move is expected to improve retirement benefits and long-term financial security for Oyo State workers.
