LAMATA Expands Blue Line Rail Services to 94 Daily Trips

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has announced an expansion of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line, increasing daily train trips from 90 to 94 and introducing an earlier start time of 6:00 a.m. for weekday and Saturday services.

The development, disclosed by Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi via his official X handle on Tuesday, takes effect from June 15, 2026.

According to the statement, the revised timetable is designed to improve passenger convenience, reduce waiting times, and accommodate the growing number of commuters relying on the rail corridor.

“Under the new schedule, trains will begin operations 30 minutes earlier from Monday to Saturday, enabling thousands of commuters to start their journeys ahead of peak road traffic,” LAMATA said.

While services will continue to close at 9:30 p.m., the increase to 94 trips is expected to ease platform congestion and improve travel efficiency.

LAMATA also announced improvements to Sunday services, raising trips from 22 to 24, with trains running at consistent 30-minute intervals throughout the day.

The authority attributed the expansion to rising passenger demand, noting that since commercial operations began in September 2023, the Blue Line has transported more than six million passengers, underscoring its role in transforming urban mobility and reducing travel times across Lagos.

This latest upgrade reflects the Lagos State Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen mass transit infrastructure and provide commuters with more reliable transportation options.
