The Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed reports suggesting its leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, threatened to leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) over alleged candidate substitutions.
In a statement issued by spokesman Habibu Mohammed, the group described the claims as baseless rumours. “Kwankwaso never threatened to leave the NDC. Neither the Kwankwasiyya Movement nor its leader is complaining,” the statement read.
Speculation had emerged that the bloc would exit the party if loyalists nominated by the movement were replaced.
However, Mohammed clarified that the May 29 party primaries were conducted in line with the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines, with winners affirmed the same day.
He explained that NDC stakeholders had earlier agreed to adopt consensus candidates where necessary, and the final list was submitted without internal disputes.
He stressed that Kwankwaso had not communicated any grievances to the movement.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement reaffirmed its commitment to the NDC, insisting that its leader remains firmly within the party despite rumours of dissatisfaction.
