The Kaduna State Government has commenced the training of 1,000 forest guards as part of a renewed push to tackle insecurity and flush out bandits operating in the state’s forested areas.
The recruits are expected to work closely with conventional security agencies by providing local intelligence, monitoring forest activities, and reporting suspicious movements to prevent bandit attacks.
Speaking at the flag-off of the training programme at the Police College in Kaduna, Governor Uba Sani, represented by his Chief of Staff, Sani Kila, urged the trainees to be disciplined and professional in the discharge of their duties.
He emphasised that the initiative would strengthen collaboration with security forces, enhance overall safety, and encourage farmers to return to their farmlands without fear.
“The people of Kaduna State are ever ready to answer the call… at the end of the six-week training, these men and women will be deployed back to the flashpoints,” the governor stated.
Governor Sani listed the affected local government areas as Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Kagarko, Kachia, Chikun, Kajuru, and Igabi, adding that the deployment of the forest guards would significantly reduce insecurity in these communities.
The recruits were drawn from communities in known flashpoint areas.Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Sule Shuaibu, said the forest guards would collaborate with security agencies to monitor forests, gather intelligence, and prevent banditry.
He noted that the training, coordinated with the Office of the National Security Adviser, forms part of broader efforts to secure vulnerable communities and revive economic activities.
The state government reiterated its commitment to strengthening the security architecture and ensuring the protection of lives and property across Kaduna State.
