Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has dismissed speculation that he plans to hand over leadership of the church to one of his sons.
Speaking during a church service, Kumuyi stressed that the ministry is not a personal enterprise but belongs to Jesus Christ, and therefore cannot be transferred through family succession.
“Many people were speculating, is he going to hand over the church unto his son? Well, it’s not his church. Jesus said, upon this rock, I will build my church… It’s the church of the Lord Jesus Christ and nobody has right to hand it over to his son,” Kumuyi declared.
He cited biblical examples, noting that apostles such as Peter, Paul, and John did not pass church leadership to their children.
Kumuyi’s clarification comes after online discussions suggested he might eventually appoint one of his sons to succeed him.
He insisted that leadership of the ministry would continue to follow divine direction rather than family ties.
