Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, has declared himself the “divine goalkeeper” tasked with protecting the state from intruders.
The governor has since declared his intention to seek
re-election in the August 15, 2026 gubernatorial poll.
In a statement shared on his verified X handle on Monday,
Adeleke attributed his confidence to divine affirmation and the performance of
his administration.
“Today, by the grace of God and the support of the good
people of Osun, I have been divinely affirmed as the goalkeeper to man the
goalpost of Osun State Government against any potential intruder,” he said.
He highlighted achievements in infrastructure development,
workers’ welfare, education, healthcare, and grassroots empowerment, insisting
that his administration’s record “speaks for itself”.
“As we prepare for the August 15 election, I am ready to
visit every town and village to present our achievements and unveil an updated
Five Point Agenda for a greater Osun,” Adeleke added.
The governor urged the opposition to embrace issue-based
campaigns rather than personal attacks, saying the people of Osun should decide
based on “facts, performance and truth”.
“With God on our side and the people behind us, victory is
assured. Imole continuity is imminent,” he said.
Adeleke, who won the 2022 governorship election on the
platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the then-incumbent
Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), will run for
re-election under the Accord Party.
