Fashola: I Never Received Security Votes as Lagos Governor

Former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has disclosed that he did not receive security votes during his eight-year tenure in office.

Speaking at a June 12 Democracy Day event hosted by The Platform, Fashola addressed questions on the use of security votes by state governments.

He emphasized that contrary to popular belief, governors do not personally receive such funds.

“I never received security votes at any point while serving as governor of Lagos State,” Fashola stated, adding that all government revenues were managed through institutional channels rather than being placed under his direct control.

The former Minister of Works, Power and Housing explained that funds accruing to Lagos were domiciled within the state’s Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, ensuring transparency and accountability.

His remarks come amid ongoing public debate about the management of security votes, with many Nigerians questioning their impact on governance and national security.
