A former governorship aspirant in Bauchi State, Farouk Mustapha, has debunked reports linking him to a purported vice-presidential nomination by Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
In a statement on Friday, Mustapha described the social media reports as false, insisting that no discussion had taken place between him and Makinde regarding the running mate position.
“My attention has been drawn to speculations alleging that the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement is considering me as his running mate,” he said.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to state categorically that no such arrangement has been discussed with me, nor have I given my consent to any such proposition.”
Mustapha emphasised that he has not held any talks with anyone in the APM concerning the vice-presidential slot and remains content with whatever position God has destined for him.
He explained that the clarification became necessary after receiving enquiries from journalists, supporters, and associates. Citing the Hausa proverb “Kowa ya san matar auren sa” (everyone knows his own bride), he urged his supporters and the people of Bauchi State to disregard the rumours.
Mustapha is currently in Saudi Arabia on a spiritual visit, where he is engaged in prayers and seeking divine guidance on his future political direction.
