Mujahid Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, eldest son of the former Kano State Deputy Governor, has petitioned the police against Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director General of Media and Publicity to the Kano State Governor, over alleged defamation.
The petition, filed through his lawyer Barr. Nazifi Yusuf Gorondutse on June 17, 2026, accused Bature of making defamatory remarks during a political gathering on June 13, 2026.
According to the complaint, Bature linked Gwarzo to receiving “Awalaja” from local government chairmen across Kano’s 44 councils.
A video of the speech, which circulated widely on social media, was said to have damaged Gwarzo’s reputation.
His lawyer urged the Kano State Commissioner of Police to investigate the matter and take appropriate legal action.
The case adds to rising political tensions in Kano, where allegations and counter-allegations have increasingly spilled into public discourse and legal battles.
