The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has dismissed the purported suspension of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, by Chika Edoziem, former head of the now-dissolved 3rd Administration of the Directorate of State (DOS), describing it as illegal, null and void.
The controversy arose after Kanu announced the dissolution of Edoziem’s 3rd DOS administration and appointed a new 4th administration led by Mazi Chris Nwaogu. In response, Edoziem and his group claimed to have suspended Kanu as IPOB leader.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday by IPOB’s Spokesperson and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group reaffirmed Kanu’s supreme leadership and declared the dissolution of the previous administration as final and lawful.
“The Supreme Leader, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, acting pursuant to the powers vested exclusively in him under the IPOB Code of Conduct, formally dissolved the 3rd Administration of the Directorate of State led by Chika Edoziem and inaugurated the 4th Administration headed by Mazi Chris Nwaogu,” the statement read.
IPOB stressed that Edoziem’s counter-action attempting to suspend Kanu and the Director of Radio Biafra holds no legal or organisational weight. “Such action is not merely irregular; it is illegal, unconstitutional, null, void, and of no effect whatsoever. No person can derive authority from an office that has already ceased to exist,” the group asserted.
Citing the IPOB Code of Conduct, the statement emphasised that the power to appoint, suspend, or dismiss principal officers rests exclusively with the Supreme Leader. Section II, Subsection A clearly states that this authority belongs to Kanu unless expressly delegated. No other body or individual has the right to overrule or suspend him.
IPOB described Edoziem and his associates’ actions as gross insubordination, abuse of office, attempted usurpation of power, and deliberate sabotage. It warned that such rebellion against lawful authority undermines the movement’s discipline and command structure.
“The IPOB Code of Conduct remains the supreme governing instrument of the movement and is binding on every member,” the statement noted. Members unwilling to abide by the rules are free to resign, but defiance will attract severe disciplinary measures, including suspension or expulsion.
The group clarified that the 3rd Administration no longer exists, and all directives or statements issued by Edoziem or his dissolved team after the dissolution should be disregarded. Authentic IPOB communications will only come through authorised channels under the recognised leadership.
IPOB urged all members worldwide to remain calm, disciplined, and loyal to Kanu, while confirming that the 4th Administration under Chris Nwaogu is fully operational and accountable to the Supreme Leader.
