A high-powered delegation from the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Sunday paid a condolence visit to the Katsina State Government and the family of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar (also referred to as Rabe Abdullahi), who died in bandit captivity.
The delegation, led by Major General I.M. Abdullahi, Chief of Administration (Army) at the DHQ, conveyed the condolences of the Chief of Defence Staff, General O.O. Oluyede, and the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Speaking during the visit, Major General Abdullahi described the late senior officer as a distinguished and patriotic military leader whose service and sacrifice to the nation would not be forgotten.
He assured the government and the family that the military remains committed to tracking down and bringing those responsible for the general’s death to justice.
The delegation also presented a national flag to the family in honour of the late general’s contributions to the country.
Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, was abducted alongside his wife on May 30, 2026, while travelling along the Katsina–Matazu road.
He reportedly died in captivity from health complications on June 13, 2026. His remains were released and buried in Katsina on Saturday, June 14. His wife remains in captivity.
