Deregistration of Political Parties: Tinubu Inviting Anarchy - Rep Ugochinyere

Hon. Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere, the lawmaker representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency in Imo State, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu, accusing him of inviting anarchy through the deregistration of opposition political parties.

Ugochinyere made the remarks on Monday while reacting to a Federal High Court judgment in Abuja that ordered the de-registration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Peoples Party (APP), and three other political parties.

The outspoken lawmaker described the ruling as a dangerous move that could plunge Nigeria into political instability similar to turbulent periods in the country’s history and other parts of Africa.

He urged the National Judicial Council (NJC) to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the judgment, alleging that prior judicial decisions and legal arguments were not properly considered.

He further called on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to protect the integrity of the judiciary, warning that failure to address public concerns could erode confidence in the justice system.

“This is a pure invitation to anarchy,” Ugochinyere stated. “The judiciary remains the last hope of the common man. If judgments of superior courts can be ignored, then we are endangering one of the most important institutions of our democracy.”

The development has sparked widespread reactions, with other opposition figures also condemning the court order as a threat to multi-party democracy ahead of future elections.
