Deregistration: Kwankwaso Meets NDC National Leader Seriake Dickson

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), met with the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, on Sunday to discuss the recent court ruling affecting the party’s registration.

The meeting comes after the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, on Friday vacated its earlier judgment of December 10, 2025, which had compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party.

In the latest ruling on suit No. FHC/LKJ/CS/49/2025, Justice Isah Dashen held that the previous judgment was delivered without hearing all necessary parties, rendering the proceedings constitutionally defective.

The court acted on an application by the Peace Movement Party, which claimed it had a legal interest in the matter.

The decision has sparked controversy, with opposition figures accusing the administration of President Bola Tinubu of using the judiciary to weaken opposition parties.

Senator Dickson confirmed the meeting via a post on his official Facebook page, stating that he and Kwankwaso discussed “issues of mutual interest concerning our party.”

He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to rejecting any move towards one-party democracy.

“We reaffirmed our resolve to stand together in the fight for multi-party democracy,” Dickson said.

He added that he briefed Kwankwaso on steps being taken to address the “anomalous ruling” of the Federal High Court, assuring that “we are on course.”

The developments have raised concerns about the future of the NDC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
