The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled July 7 for the hearing of all pending applications and the substantive suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, led by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The suit seeks to compel INEC to recognise the Kabir Turaki-led interim National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP.
Justice Salim Ibrahim fixed the date on Tuesday after directing all parties to file and exchange processes by July 6, warning that no further delays would be tolerated.
The plaintiffs, including Wabara, former Niger State Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, Prof. Jerry Gana, Chief Olabode George, and others argue that INEC is constitutionally bound to recognise the interim leadership following appellate court judgments that invalidated the PDP’s November 2025 national convention and upheld the suspension of key party officials.
Counsel to the plaintiffs, Chief Gordy Uche (SAN), urged the court to hear all joinder applications alongside the substantive suit to save judicial time, stressing that the matter is time-sensitive given INEC’s July 11 deadline for submission of candidates.
Aliyu, in an affidavit, alleged that despite notifying INEC of the interim leadership through letters dated May 4 and May 15, the commission failed to update its records. He described INEC’s refusal as “a grave affront to the rule of law and the supremacy of the Constitution.”
At Tuesday’s proceedings, counsel for INEC, the PDP, and other applicants seeking joinder raised no objections, paving the way for the July 7 hearing.
