Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, has made history, becoming the African artiste with the highest number of entries on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The Afrofusion superstar, whose real name is Damini Ogulu,
now boasts nine entries on the prestigious ranking — surpassing fellow Nigerian
singer Tems, who previously tied with him at eight.
His latest entry came from ‘Dai Dai‘, the official song of
the ongoing FIFA World Cup, which he recorded with Colombian pop icon Shakira.
The track debuted at number 75 on this week’s chart, pushing
Burna Boy ahead.
The collaboration came after Shakira expressed interest in
working with the Nigerian star.
“It was very easy to come up with the melody, the lyrics,
the concept, and then obviously when I had Burna Boy recorded, that was like
the cherry on top. I always wanted to do something with Burna, and I think that
his voice just takes it to another level,” she had said.
The duo performed the track live during the World Cup
opening ceremony, giving it a major global boost.
The feat also makes Burna Boy the first African artiste to
chart at least one song on the Billboard Hot 100 for six consecutive years,
from 2021 to 2026.
His previous entries include:
Loved By You (2021)
Last Last (2022)
Sittin’ On Top Of The World (2023)
Talibans II (2023)
Just Like Me (2024)
We Pray (2024)
WGFT (2025)
Only You (2026)
Dai Dai (2026)
