Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed on Sunday visited his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, in Ibadan to sympathise with him and the people of Oyo State over the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
The visit took place at Governor Makinde’s private residence. Mohammed was accompanied by leaders of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), including the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, and its Bauchi governorship candidate, Dr Yakubu Adamu.
Speaking after the closed-door meeting, Bala Mohammed said the visit was to show solidarity with the Oyo State government and the affected families.
He praised Makinde’s efforts towards securing the safe release of the abducted pupils and teachers, expressing hope that they would regain freedom soon.
“We are here to commiserate with Governor Makinde over the abduction of schoolchildren and their teachers,” Mohammed stated.
He called for a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture, emphasising better coordination among security agencies and improved collaboration between citizens and security operatives.
The Bauchi governor also linked the rising insecurity to poverty, poor governance, and economic hardship.
Mohammed urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid aiding criminal elements with information.
He further stressed the importance of credible leadership at all levels to tackle the nation’s security and developmental challenges.
Officials who received the Bauchi governor included the Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde; Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Hon. Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola; and Senior Executive Assistant on General Duties, Chief Bayo Lawal.
