Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has asserted that African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen possesses greater competence and experience than the party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Lawal dismissed comparisons between the two politicians, insisting that Atiku’s record cannot match Hayatu-Deen’s professional background.
“Hayatu-Deen is more competent than Atiku. They can’t even be in the same boat,” Lawal said, highlighting Hayatu-Deen’s tenure as Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) as evidence of his expertise.
Both men contested in the ADC’s recent presidential primary ahead of the 2027 election. Atiku secured the party’s ticket after winning the highest number of votes, while Hayatu-Deen placed third behind former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
Lawal’s remarks add to ongoing debates within the ADC, where questions of leadership and credibility continue to shape the party’s outlook for 2027.
