Troops of the Nigerian Army, working with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have raided suspected armouries belonging to the outlawed Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Enugu State, recovering a rocket launcher and a large cache of weapons.
Security sources disclosed that the operation, carried out on credible intelligence, targeted facilities where ESN members were allegedly stockpiling arms for planned attacks in the South-East.
The first raid took place on Tuesday in the Garki area of Enugu, where operatives uncovered an armoury containing:
One rocket launcher
Two rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) warheads and three RPG chargersThree AK-47 rifles with six magazines.
Two handheld grenades
A teargas gun with two canistersOver 700 rounds of assorted 7.62mm ammunitionA second raid on Wednesday in the Agbani area yielded additional weapons, including eight AK-47 rifles, a smoke grenade launcher, 12 magazines, two teargas canisters, and 323 rounds of ammunition.
Security operatives also found NYSC uniforms and lanyards, raising concerns about possible infiltration tactics.
The Nigerian Army confirmed that all recovered items and arrested suspects have been handed over to the DSS Enugu Command for further investigation and prosecution.
This operation follows recent arrests of suspected ESN members in the state and is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the group’s logistics and weapons networks.
