The Nigerian Army has carried out a significant reshuffle of its senior officers, affecting key operational, command, training, and staff positions across the force.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, approved the strategic redeployments, which were announced on Saturday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele.
The move aims to strengthen national security, boost operational effectiveness, and address emerging security challenges.
Key appointments include:
Major General WM Dangana as General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, replacing Major General EF Oyinlola.
Major General EI Okoro as GOC 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, succeeding Major General EE Emeka.
Major General JR Lar as Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison.
Brigadier General OM Oyekola as Acting Military Secretary (Army).
Brigadier General I Waziri retains his role as Chief of Staff to the COAS.
In brigade-level commands:
Brigadier General IB Buhari takes over as Commander, Headquarters 63 Brigade.
Brigadier General K Rabiu assumes command of Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.
Other notable appointments:
Major General SA Emmanuel as Commander, Nigerian Army Space Command (emphasising the Army’s focus on technology and emerging domains of warfare).
Major General O Adegbe as Director of Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters.
Major General KE Chigbu as Deputy Commandant, National Defence College.
Major General SD Makolo as Commandant, Nigerian Army Armour School.
Additional roles in training, logistics, housing, and properties.
The COAS urged the newly appointed officers to demonstrate exemplary leadership, professionalism, innovation, and commitment to the Army’s constitutional responsibilities of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and maintaining peace.
This reshuffle forms part of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing transformation efforts to build a more professional and combat-ready force.
