APC Women, Youths Protest in Akure Over ‘Fake’ Reps List

Hundreds of women and youths of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State on Monday staged a protest in Akure, rejecting the list of House of Representatives candidates released by the party’s National Secretariat.

The demonstrators, who blocked major roads including the convoy of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa along Oyemekun Road and the Akure–Ilesa Expressway, alleged that the list did not reflect the outcome of last month’s primaries.

They claimed that names of aspirants who lost the election were included, describing the move as an attempt to impose candidates on the party.

Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “We don’t want imposition in Ondo APC” and “Let our votes count,” the protesters demanded that the party leadership respect the will of members across the state’s 203 wards.

State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Seun Osamaye, dismissed the circulated list as fake, insisting it failed to represent the mandate of party members.

“We know those we voted for. What is being circulated online does not reflect the people’s choice,” she said.Youth leader Bright Ojo also condemned the development, calling it a “democratic coup.”

He accused the party’s national leadership of reshuffling names and attempting to impose candidates from outside the state.

The protesters urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene, stressing that the integrity of the primaries must be upheld.

They warned that any attempt to undermine the process could incite unrest, vowing to resist what they described as injustice.
