APC Supporters Protest Candidate Switch in Lagos Eti-Osa, Urge Tinubu’s Intervention

Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Eti-Osa Constituency I, Lagos State, have staged a protest over the party’s decision to list Saheed Bankole as its candidate for the Lagos State House of Assembly in the 2027 elections, despite incumbent Majority Leader Noheem Adams reportedly winning the primary.

According to results announced after the primary held in Ajah, Adams secured 7,638 votes against Bankole’s 1,225, with election officials declaring Adams the winner.

However, when the APC released its final list of candidates on May 25, Bankole was named as the flagbearer, sparking outrage among Adams’ supporters.

On Thursday, members of the Noheem Adams Support Group, alongside youth organisations, women groups, and community leaders, gathered at the Second Toll Gate in Lekki to demand that the party respect the outcome of the primaries.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Owolabi Yisa urged APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and Lagos State Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi to protect the mandate given to Adams.

“The will of party members was clearly demonstrated during the primary election. This was not a marginal victory or a disputed contest; it was a decisive endorsement of Hon. Noheem Adams,” Yisa said, warning that disregarding the result could fracture party unity.

Protesters highlighted Adams’ popularity among party elders, traditional institutions, market associations, and residents, citing his performance in office and empowerment initiatives.

They also appealed directly to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and uphold fairness and internal democracy.

Responding to the controversy, Lagos APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi maintained that the published list remains the official record, explaining that the state chapter only released results submitted by the national committee.

Despite this, aggrieved members insisted that revisiting the issue is necessary to preserve grassroots confidence and party cohesion.

While reaffirming loyalty to the APC and Tinubu’s administration, they stressed that transparency and respect for democratic decisions are essential for lasting unity.
