The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State have engaged in a war of words over the political membership status of former Communications Minister, Professor Isa Ali Pantami.
The controversy erupted after Pantami defected from the APC to the PDP and emerged as the PDP’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The PDP insists that Pantami is a bona fide member who has fully left the APC, while the APC maintains he remains a member of their party, claiming he did not formally resign.
Gombe PDP officials have strongly dismissed the APC’s position, describing Pantami as a committed and legitimate member of their party.
They accused the APC of engaging in mischief and attempting to create confusion around the former minister’s defection.
Pantami had withdrawn from the APC governorship primary after protesting a consensus arrangement that favoured another aspirant.
He subsequently joined the PDP, where he secured the governorship ticket through a voice vote.
The row has heightened political tension in Gombe State as both parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls.
The APC has described Pantami’s move as irregular, while the PDP maintains that he has completed all necessary processes to become a full member.
This development adds to the ongoing realignments and cross-party movements as politicians gear up for the next general elections.
