ADC perpetuating Injustice Against South East – Kenneth Okonkwo

Actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for reportedly choosing former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 election, warning that the decision sidelines the South-East.

Okonkwo, in a statement shared on his social media, argued that the South-East remains the only geo-political zone yet to produce a President or Vice President since 1999.

He described the move as “perpetuating injustice” against the region. The ADC confirmed Amaechi’s selection in Abuja through its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, pairing him with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The announcement followed consultations with party stakeholders and coalition partners nationwide.Okonkwo noted that the party’s founder, Ralph Nwosu, who hails from the South-East, sacrificed his leadership role in 2025 to strengthen the coalition.

He insisted that denying the region the vice-presidential slot undermines that sacrifice. He revealed that his only request to Atiku was to demonstrate his promise of supporting a South-East presidency by selecting a running mate from the region.

“I joined politics to fight for a better Nigeria where no region, geo-political zone, or person will be marginalised,” Okonkwo said, adding that he would not campaign for any presidential ticket that excludes South-East representation.
