ADC Governorship Aspirant Bashir Adamu Seeks Annulment of Jigawa Primary Election

Hon. Bashir Adamu (Matawallen Kazaure), a governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State and former federal lawmaker, has petitioned the party’s State Election Appeal Committee, demanding the annulment of the recently held governorship primary election.

In a petition personally signed by him, Bashir Adamu alleged that the primary was plagued by serious irregularities, violations of party guidelines, and undue interference by party officials. He claimed the chairman of the primary election committee abandoned neutrality and operated under directives from the State Executive Committee, in breach of established regulations.

According to Adamu, the chairman eventually announced the candidate under duress. He accused the State Executive Committee of bias, alleging it actively worked to install Sabo Nagudu as the party’s governorship flag bearer.

The petitioner, who says he played a pivotal role in building the ADC’s structure across all 27 local government areas of the state, expressed disappointment that state and local officials allegedly mobilized for his rival and were entrusted with sensitive election materials, creating opportunities for manipulation.

He further alleged deliberate delays in the distribution of election materials, especially in the North-West Senatorial District. Materials reportedly arrived late at night, after many accredited party members had waited for hours and eventually left the polling centres.

Adamu claimed that political thugs loyal to his opponent exploited the chaos by seizing materials and falsifying results in favour of their preferred candidate. He also reported incidents of violence, intimidation, and thuggery in various parts of the state, which forced the electoral committee chairman to cancel the exercise in four local government areas.

The aspirant argued that these widespread disruptions rendered the primary inconclusive and amounted to an attempt to suppress the democratic rights of party members. He challenged the validity of results announced by the State Executive Committee, insisting that only the Primary Election Committee has the authority to declare outcomes.

Bashir Adamu therefore urged the Appeal Committee to nullify the entire process and conduct a fresh primary, citing violations of both ADC guidelines and the Electoral Act.

Despite the grievances, the aspirant reaffirmed his commitment to the ADC and expressed confidence that the party leadership would address the issues raised fairly.
