Taiwo Adeshina, the ace Nigerian actor famed for his herbalist and traditional priest roles under the stage name ‘Elegbeje Ado,’ has passed away.
His death was confirmed on Tuesday by movie star Kunle Afod
via an Instagram post.
Afod hailed Adeshina as a “legend” of the Yoruba movie
industry, praising his transformative impact on Nigerian cinema.
He also extended his condolences to the actor’s family,
friends, and fans.
“We regret to announce the passing of one of the legends of
the Yoruba Nollywood industry, Baba Elegbeje Ado,” he wrote.
“Your immense contribution to the growth of Yoruba cinema,
your talent, and the joy you brought to countless lives will never be
forgotten.
”Thank you for the beautiful memories and the legacy you
left behind. May your soul rest in perfect peace.
“Our heartfelt condolences go to your family, friends,
colleagues, and fans during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Baba Elegbeje
Ado. Your legacy lives on forever.”
Adeshina rose to stardom in the late 1980s, building a
prolific career spanning over two decades.
He appeared in more than 100 films, including classics such
as‘ Akeke (Scorpion)’, ‘Oko Abiku’, ‘Kadara Mi’ and ‘Ageku Abela’.
In 2016, he retired from acting to dedicate his life to
full-time pastoral ministry.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
