Senator Adams Oshiomhole has urged the Federal Government to retaliate against South African businesses operating in Nigeria in response to the recent xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
Speaking during plenary on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the former Edo State Governor called for the revocation of operating licences of major South African companies such as MTN and DSTV.
Oshiomhole argued that Nigeria must respond firmly to the persistent hostility against its citizens.“I am not going to shed tears. If you hit me, I hit you. I think it is appropriate in diplomacy. It is an economic struggle,” he said.
He suggested that Nigerians should take over the jobs and opportunities created by these South African firms, adding that a strong response would force the South African government to take the matter seriously.
“We will not condone any life being lost. If a crime has been committed under South African law they have the right to bring any such person to justice, but to kill our people as if we are helpless, we will not allow that,” Oshiomhole added.
The comments come amid reports of renewed xenophobic violence in South Africa, where several Nigerians have been attacked and their businesses destroyed.
