Wike-backed PDP suspends Bode George, 23 chieftains over ‘anti-party activities’

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, backed by Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has suspended Bode George and 23 party chieftains over alleged anti-party activities.

Kayode Ogunbiyi, chairman of the Lagos PDP disciplinary committee, and Desmond Agho, the secretary, announced the suspension in a statement on Friday.

The committee said the decision was taken at its meeting held on Tuesday, where several petitions alleging “anti-party activities and deliberate infractions of the party’s constitution” were reviewed.

Among those affected by the suspension are Aduke Maina, Abimbola Ogunkelu, Laja Adeoye, Tunji Shelle, Sunday Olaifa, Gbenga Adegbesan, Rita Orji, Kofoworola Bucknor, Onikepo Oshodi, and Idera Sodipo.

The list also includes Adedipe Ewenla, Bode Ogundipe, Aminu Suleiman, Roli George, Adetokunbo Pearse, Adeyemi Moyegun, Taiwo Kuye, Setonji Koshoedo, Muritala Ashorobi, Amos Fawole, and Olumuyiwa Richard.

The committee accused the suspended chieftains of frolicking with rival political parties to sabotage the interests of the PDP.

It added that all suspended members would no longer participate in party activities in the state or represent the party in any official or unofficial capacity.

The party warned that legal steps could be taken against any suspended member found acting contrary to its interests in the state.

George, a member of the PDP board of trustees (BoT), has had a long-running battle with the Wike faction of the party, a dispute that culminated in his expulsion by the faction’s NEC last year.
