Former spokesperson of the Labour Party presidential campaign, Datti Baba Ahmed, has explained why prominent politicians such as Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso did not join the Peoples Redemption Party.
Speaking on the development, Baba Ahmed said the PRP,
despite its historical ideology and structure, was not the political platform
that aligned with the current ambitions and political strategies of the two
leading figures.
According to him, “both Obi and Kwankwaso already had
established political movements and strong support bases under their respective
platforms, making a switch to PRP unnecessary and politically unrealistic at
the time”.
He noted that
Nigerian politics is now driven more by coalition strength and existing party
structures than ideological sentiment alone, adding that major actors often
prefer to consolidate influence within already functional platforms rather than
migrate to smaller parties.
