The Labour Party in Abia State has said that the state government is not concerned over whether the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, intends to contest for governor in 2027 or return to the House of Representatives.
In a statement issued on Saturday through the party’s Publicity Secretary, Iroegbu Emenike, the party said, “Governor Alex Otti is far too focused on governance, rebuilding critical infrastructure, repositioning the economy, restoring confidence in public institutions, and improving the lives of Abians to spend valuable time discussing individuals who are yet to clearly define their own political direction.
“It is therefore surprising that the APC in Abia State continues to drag the governor into every conversation as though their political relevance depends solely on mentioning his name.
“The truth remains that Governor Alex Otti’s performance has naturally become the standard for governance in Abia State, and this reality appears to be giving the opposition sleepless nights.”
The statement referenced a press release signed by Mr. Uche Aguoru, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Abia State, over issues concerning the deputy speaker.
Accordingly, the party noted, “Ordinarily, the Labour Party would not have dignified such a needless and panic-driven publication with a response, but it has become necessary to advise the Abia APC to desist from the habitual attempt to use the good name of Governor Alex C. Otti to drive their endless political narratives and internal anxieties.
“The Labour Party finds it unnecessary to engage in debates over endorsements or political speculations manufactured by opposition elements seeking public attention. Governor Otti’s growing acceptance across Abia State and beyond is rooted in visible performance, prudent leadership and the restoration of hope to the people.”
The Abia LP, therefore, advised the APC in the state to “focus on rebuilding their party, articulating alternative policies, and addressing the concerns of their members instead of constantly dragging the Governor into their political insecurities,” adding that “Abians are politically conscious and can clearly distinguish between propaganda and performance.”
