Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna state, has set up a consensus committee on party harmonisation and aspirants’ engagement to strengthen unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
The committee, headed by Hadiza Babarabe, the deputy
governor, is mandated to drive constructive engagement among aspirants and
stakeholders to promote political stability, mutual understanding and consensus
within the APC.
Other members are the speaker of the Kaduna state house of
assembly, the state chairman of the APC, and the secretary to the state
government (SSG), chief of staff to the governor, state’s commissioner for
justice and attorney general, the commissioner for information, and the deputy
chief of staff, legal services.
Sani said that the committee would engage aspirants, party
leaders, and other stakeholders to facilitate amicable resolutions in
constituencies where competing interests exist.
The governor said that the committee would also encourage
voluntary withdrawals where necessary “in the broader interest of party harmony
and electoral success”.
He noted that the constitution of the committee reflects
“inclusive leadership, internal cohesion, and the preservation of unity within
the party”.
